Oldie Cartoons
January 19th, 2010The lovely people at the Oldie Magazine picked a few of my toons in this month’s mag - all from a batch sent many months ago…hence the variance in signatures. I hadn’t really settled on a ’signature’ signature until about September, so it’s a decent way of dating my toons. It also explains the presence of a swine flu gag, which wasn’t published anywhere way back when it was topical. Still, its my first published nudity, so I should probably bang a 15 certificate on this post.
Cartwnau a gyhoeddwyd yng Nghylchgrawn yr Oldie mis yma - tair (tri?) o’r archif yma, sy’n amlwg o’r llofnodion wahanol. Dim syniad os yw Swine Flu (Salwch Soch?) dal o gwmpas, ond nath rhywun yn yr Oldie penderfynu fod e’n ddoniol!
Wedding Stationery
January 5th, 2010Thought you might like to see some of my less cartoony work. These were done for a wedding I attended recently. Groom wasn’t jilted at the altar, so I guess it was a successful day.

Prospect Mag Cartoonist of the Month for December
December 3rd, 2009…is me!
Not sure how long it’ll be online for free, mind. I think they’re following Murdoch’s lead and charging for web content after a while. Catch it while you can - though bear in mind that tongue was firmly in cheek when answering the questions!
I’ll post up the questionnaire answers on here when they become unavailable on the Prospect site, so you tightwads who only consume free webcontent can still access my pearls of wisdom.
Here’s a couple of the toons they use to illustrate the article:

Aaron Toons on TV!
November 24th, 2009‘Sioe Gelf’, a Welsh language Art show, asked me to let them film me for a day to give an insight into how a typical cartoonist thinks and works. Now, I’ve got no idea whether I’m a typical cartoonist, but I waffled a bit and showed a few pictures and they seemed quite happy with that.
The show aired last sunday, and will be available online HERE for a month or so, check it out if you are interested in the cartooning process and/or learning welsh! There are english subtitles, just click the little owl icon. Not sure exactly what owls have to do with english subtitles…

Marriage Schmarriage
October 15th, 2009My fragile, nascent cartooning career has been placed firmly on the back burner for a few weeks now, what with upcoming wedding and trying to completely renovate the house. Tonight, I’m aiming to finish off our wedding Order of Service booklet designs. They’ll hopefully look something like the invites did:
Bit of an autumnal theme goin’ on.
Playing on Words
September 29th, 2009An occasional annoyance inherent in the speculative submission side of this cartooning game (i.e sending off batches of cartoons to magazine editors, and hoping they buy some), is that editors often choose cartoons that I’d consider the weak ones of the batch. The hilarious cartoons - carefully crafted, pored over, and drawn up with tender touch - remain unpublished, while their ugly, hurried runt siblings strut their stuff on the pages of national magazines. There’s a moral to the story somewhere.
Anyway, here’s a couple of punny/word-play type runts that I don’t find hilarious, myself, but are nonetheless in this month’s Prospect and Saga magazine, respectively. Am I being harsh on them? Let me know what you think.
